This year's designer Peter Dyer wears the graphic printed t-shirt £25
Care-experienced designer has been selected to design the latest collection for the purpose-led gifting range Made by Care, exclusively available at John Lewis and Waitrose.
The Made by Care collection forms part of the John Lewis Building Happier Futures programme supporting people who have experienced the care system.
This year's designer, Peter Dyer, was born in Holloway prison where he became a ward of the state and was later adopted.
A donation of £150,000 and 25% of the purchase price of all products will go to Action for Children.
The collection is the fourth in the Made by Care range, part of the John Lewis Partnership’s Building Happier Futures programme, which supports care-experienced people to develop their skills, confidence and career opportunities.
Peter Dyer was selected from 14 other candidates for his distinctive, fluid designs, which lend themselves naturally to products spanning homeware and accessories. The 16-piece gifting collection includes a geometric-shaped mug (£9), a statement silk scarf (£49), a hand-painted vase (£15) and a graphic-print sweatshirt (£35).
Peter Dyer, Designer: “My work spans architecture, landscape and product design. It is shaped by my experiences growing up and explores themes of belonging and identity. These ideas inform my design work, art practice and many other aspects of my life.”

Inspired by the surrounding landscape, Dyer explores how form, in both the natural world and human experience, is shaped over time. Just as landscapes evolve through accumulation, pressure and time, his work reflects the idea that people, too, are continually evolving.

Peter Dyer, Designer: “Having experienced the care system myself, it means so much to be able to share something so personal through this collection. I hope that the pieces not only bring joy to those who buy them, but also help other care-experienced people feel seen, celebrated and inspired to follow their own dreams. This initiative is about so much more than creating a collection; it’s about opening the doors, creating opportunities and supporting those in need.”
Alongside a donation of £150,000, John Lewis will give 25% of the purchase price of all products to Action for Children. This will help build supportive communities for care-experienced people and ensure children and young people have someone by their side when they need it most.
Katherine Woods, Director of Fundraising at Action for Children, said: “Every 15 minutes, a child in the UK enters care. Every one of these children deserves to feel safe, loved and supported, with the right people around them to help them thrive. We’d like to thank John Lewis and its generous customers for supporting Action for Children through this beautiful collection which will make a real difference to the children we support in care. Money from every sale will help us build communities around care-experienced children, making sure they have someone by their side when they need it most."
The full Made by Care collection, designed by Peter Dyer, is available from today in stores and online at johnlewis.com with tote bags launching in Waitrose shops in November.
