Combine harvester in field

Heatwave prompts early harvest at Leckford

As the only UK supermarket to own and operate its own farm, Waitrose stepped up harvesting schedules ahead of the traditional calendar. The unprecedented early start is a direct result of unseasonably high temperatures, which have caused the crops to ripen much faster than usual this year. The Waitrose Leckford Estate spans 2,800 acres and serves as a testbed for sustainable farming practices, ensuring that the supermarket's commitment to biodiversity and regenerative agriculture is practiced firsthand.

Fuelled by social media and London bar culture, shoppers have been opting for pickle juice and upgrading traditional salt rims with Mexican seasoning and herbs.

Only the best for our four-legged friends

Waitrose shoppers are no longer just feeding their pets—they're putting them on wellness plans.  According to new sales data from Waitrose, the "pet humanisation" trend has reached a dramatic peak. Pet owners are applying the same "clean label," functional-health scrutiny to their dogs' diets as they do to their own family meals. Waitrose has seen a triple-digit year-on-year growth in sales across advanced and targeted pet nutrition, including functional and gut health treats, calming treats and superfood bites, while sales of raw and premium proteins are soaring.

No and Low sales soared during the World Cup

Waitrose reported skyrocketing sales of alcohol-free drinks during the World Cup, as fans swapped booze for booze-free alternatives due to the late night kick offs. Online searches for low-and-no beer were up 200% and customers snapped up late-night drinks, confectionery, snacks, frozen and breakfast items via on demand grocery. Customer demand for Deliveroo, Uber Eats and Just Eat peaked at 10:45pm, with 25% of sales between midnight and 1am. To cope with the late night, many turned to energy drinks and these were one of the biggest growth categories during early-hours kick-offs.
