- Sales of double duvets have risen substantially as students head off to uni
- Poll showed more than a third of students missed their own bed while at university
- Pillow sales also up 28% compared to the previous week
For many of us, student life conjures up memories of hard single beds - together with thin walls and toga parties.
But John Lewis sales figures have shown that many of today's students are enjoying an upgrade in their university experience.
The traditional pre-freshers period has seen an upsurge in double rather than single bedding - indicating that students are enjoying a few more home comforts than their predecessors.
Sales of John Lewis’ affordable ANYDAY double duvet has overtaken its single counterpart, with sales of double duvets more than 75% higher than singles over the back to uni period and pillows up 28% compared to the previous week.
It comes as a poll of 500 students found that more than a third (36%) most missed their own bed while away at university, closely followed by having their favourite meal cooked for them (35%).
Olivia Shykles, Bedding Buyer at John Lewis, said:
“Whether you’re a first-year student packing for halls, returning to a final year house share, or a parent waving them off - the departure for uni is a big right of passage. This year, students are most certainly investing in little luxuries and upgrading their sleep experience.”
