GAIL'S Bakery Expanded.

  • Dedicated GAIL’s Bakery areas are to be introduced to 64 Waitrose shops in the South and East of England by May this year
  • Waitrose doubling the range of GAIL's products stocked
  • GAIL's will now be stocked in 159 Waitrose stores

Waitrose is also doubling the range of GAIL’s sourdough breads and other craft baked goods they stock, adding new lines from award-winning crackers to baguettes, bagels and muffins.

The move follows a successful trial in three Waitrose shops at the end of last year.

Aileen Kell, Bread Buyer at Waitrose, said; “The GAIL’s brand is really loved by our customers, so I’m delighted that we’re rolling out this bigger range and dedicated areas.

“Like us GAIL’s are passionate about sustainability when it comes to using high quality ingredients, packaging, and recycling so they make a great partner for us as we grow our baked goods business.”

Waitrose has been stocking GAIL’s bread since 2010 and currently stocks GAIL’s baked goods in 95 Waitrose shops across the UK and online.

Dan Barrett, Managing Director of Grocery & Wholesale at GAIL’s, said; “We are delighted to be building on our decade's long partnership with the Waitrose team to bring better bread to even more communities. As a neighbourhood craft bakery, we offer customers freshly baked food which we prepare by hand in our North London bakery and deliver daily to our retail partners shelves for our customers to enjoy.”

Notes to Editors

GAIL’s

The bakery was started by Yael (Gail) Mejia in the early 1990’s serving top chefs and food venues. In 2003, Tom Molnar and a few friends joined Yael’s premium wholesale craft bakery and grew the business organically. The team moved all the baking under one roof in Hendon, north London, to provide a better shared workplace for the bakers and top standards of food safety. In 2005, the team opened its first high-street bakery in Hampstead to bring its chef-quality craft baking and craft principles to a wider audience.

Over the following six years they grew the business with top chefs and opened seven GAIL’s retail bakeries in London as the general public and restaurants began to reinvent the London food scene. With the investment by RCP in 2011, followed by the investment by Bain Capital in 2021, the team have the capabilities and knowledge to support further growth of the business, especially in retail and property. Over the past ten years the business has grown and expanded to outside London in locations from Cambridge to Oxford to in and around Manchester in early 2023.
