- 12 brand new Waitrose recipes now available and cost less than £2 a portion to serve up
Recipe searches for flavoursome comfort foods soar as Waitrose shoppers look for simple treats to have at home.
Searches for comforting recipes show increases of 75% week on week for Martha Collison's Fish Pie and searches for The Best Macaroni Cheese, and The Best Cottage Pie have both doubled month on month, up 100%.
Martyn Lee, Partner & Executive Chef for Waitrose, said: “With people going out less, they’re looking for simple indulgent treats to have at home with many choosing a meal that needs little or no prep but that will deliver on flavour. Gourmet comfort food will be a top choice in the coming months, think - a creamy curry, an intense macaroni cheese, a hearty fish pie or cottage pie.”
Great way to use up leftovers
Comfort food recipes are also a great way to use up leftover foods. A macaroni cheese tastes just as indulgent if you incorporate the remnants of your cheese board and a curry is perfect when using up meat and/or vegetables.
Comfort food recipes
To support the demand for comforting treats to make at home, our Executive Chef, Martyn Lee has published 12 brand new recipes that cost less than £2 a portion to serve up.
The collection of Super Saver Recipes is the second wave of dishes we have developed, the first set were launched in September 2022 and the page proved the most visited part of Waitrose.com when it launched. To kick off the year Martyn’s come up with wholesome dishes like caramelised onion and anchovy spaghetti, slow cooker beef birria and chilli bean bowls with roasted cumin carrots. You can find all of the recipes in the recipes section of the website here - £2 recipes.
