Hugo Boss Tux in Dark Blue, Dress Shirt, Black Bow Tie, available to rent
Today, (Thursday 23 May) John Lewis launches the biggest range of menswear brands available to rent on the high street with the likes of BOSS Tailoring, Charles Tyrwhitt and new brand Hay Life among others. This comes after the huge success of our womenswear rental platform launched in 2022.
Searches for ‘Mens Rental’ have been consistently in the top 30 search terms on JL.com for the past 18 months, showing demand and appetite for menswear rental options from our customers. And, according to The Global Online Rental Report*, the global menswear rental industry is predicted to be worth $3bn by 2027 echoing the global appetite we’re seeing from our customers.
John Lewis Commercial Director, Kathleen Mitchell, said: “We’re unique on the high street to be able to offer the widest range of multiple brands to rent from everyday suits to more premium brands and styles.
“A perfect solution for a last minute dinner party or day at the races. This is just the beginning of menswear rental and we’re really excited to see it grow.”
Having launched John Lewis Fashion Rental womenswear in 2022 it has since thrived with a 52% increase in members and a 40% increase of rentals year on year**. The site has expanded into maternity wear, ski wear and wedding dresses to meet the demands of our customers. John Lewis Fashion Rental will host menswear rental alongside womenswear, with the new section continuing to be powered by HURR - the UK's leading rental and resale fashion marketplace.
HURR CEO Victoria Prew said: “We are really excited to collaborate with John Lewis Fashion Rental, one of our long-standing partners, to extend its rental offering to men. As a category, menswear is very much undiscovered in rental and this is a unique opportunity for us with incredible potential to shift consumer behaviour towards smarter fashion choices.”
The platform will host a carefully curated selection of contemporary brands with rental prices starting from £40 for a 4 day rental for a dinner jacket and trousers with sizes from 34-46.
Customers will be able to browse the collection at johnlewis.com/fashionrental, choosing to rent a garment for 4, 8, 16 or 30 days with next day delivery if needed. Once the items have been chosen, the products will be posted directly to the address and included will be a pre-paid postage label for returns. The items will be dry cleaned by HURR (using Oxwash responsible laundry services) and ready to be rented again.
