Green-fingered customers have been stocking up on gardening tools and accessories as Chelsea Flower Show sows seeds of inspiration across the nation.

Sales of gardening accessories at John Lewis are up 72% compared to this time last year, and searches for ‘gardening’ and ‘gardening equipment’ on JohnLewis.com are up 17% and 11% respectively.

Meanwhile, sales of planters are up 41% year-on-year, and those looking to brighten up their indoor spaces have been opting for artificial flowers, with sales up 29%.

Gardening-related gifts have also soared in popularity, with sales up 15% in the past week. Bestsellers include a Kate Spade Polka Dot Gardening Gloves & Kneeling Pad Gift Set (£14), Garden Thermometer (£30) and Garden Gloves & Root Lifter Gift Set (£35)

To celebrate this year’s Chelsea in Bloom - the free flower festival celebrating Chelsea Flower Show - Peter Jones has worked with Sarah Feather Design to create a magnificent Charlie and the Chocolate Factory floral window display, in keeping with this year’s Flowers on Film theme (pictures attached).

Around 6,000 flower stems were used to create the display, which hosts a range of floral colours and textures, and even features two bubble machines to add to the excitement of the display.

Lewis Evenden, Head of Branch at Peter Jones, says: “The atmosphere around Chelsea Flower Show is blooming incredible and it’s been wonderful to welcome visitors from near and far to see our floral display. Our customers have clearly got the gardening bug and are taking inspiration back to their own homes and outdoor spaces, whether upgrading their tools or adding some glamour to their gardening accessories.”
