Christmas shop opens as customers plan early to spread costs

Our Christmas shops open in store from 30th September.

  • Customers are spreading the cost of Christmas with ten times as many boxed baubles sold and trees up 37%
  • Extended returns, early product offers and free Click and Collect introduced to help customers
  • Rising trend for Christmas curb appeal as sales of wreaths and garlands soar 48%

With 12 weeks to go, John Lewis opens its Christmas shops in stores from tomorrow (30th September).
Customers are planning for the most wonderful time of the year - with ten times as many boxed baubles sold and sales of Christmas trees up 37% in comparison to the same time last year.

With over 1,000 quality products our Christmas shop has everything to decorate the home across the festive season. Those looking for great value can find a six foot Christmas tree at £49, lights from £8 and room decorations from £5.

To support customers looking to tick off the Christmas list early, we will be running a series of promotions across home, fashion and tech. Starting from October these offers will include a free £100 gift card when customers purchase selected electrical items. For the first time we’ve introduced our extended returns from September so any unwanted gifts can be returned after the festive season. And customers can also take advantage of free Click and Collect orders (no matter what the value) until the 19th October.

After an uncertain year customers are looking forward to a season of celebrating with family and friends. Looking to switch it up this year many are opting for brighter colour schemes as rainbow coloured decorations are the most popular buy. It’s not just inside but outside is getting a festive makeover too, sales of wreaths and garlands soar 48% as customers plan doorstop displays to delight their neighbours.

JL Bauble Wreath

Retro reigns this Christmas with customers embracing the fun moments and turning to nostalgia laden baubles to decorate their homes this year. From the distinctly 70s puzzle cube to the disco ball, decorating this year is about embracing fun and making the most of celebrating with friends and family.

Best-selling baubles:

Disco Ball Bauble, £4

Record Player Bauble, £6

Puzzle Cube Bauble, £8

Ginger Cat Bauble, £6

Candy Cane Bauble, £7

Claire Pointon, Director of Customer at John Lewis, said: “We know the festive period is full of special moments for families. We can see that, despite the cost of living pressures, customers are still determined to celebrate Christmas and are planning ahead to help spread out the cost.”

Lisa Cherry, Lead Christmas Buyer at John Lewis, said: “It’s been a sombre year, so customers are looking to rip up the rule book this Christmas and embrace something a little more colourful. For those who want to try a completely new look with their tree without spending too much I recommend our boxes of 100 baubles. There are plenty to fill your tree to give it an instant refresh and they only cost 25p a bauble.”

We launched our online Christmas shop in August for eager customers after searches on the website soared 42%.
