  • Wider 90s food revival booms with searches on Waitrose.com for capri sun and potato waffles up 550% and 135%

Bridget Jones fever is in the air and Waitrose has seen a surge in demand for the classic food and drinks featured in the film - from the infamous blue soup, turkey curry and orange marmalade, to Bridget's cheeky glass of Chardonnay. This trend is part of a wider 90s food revival, with customers turning back to their favourite 90s nostalgic foods. 

Compared to this time last year, recipe searches on Waitrose.com for:

  • Blue soup (leek and potato soup) +233%
  • Orange marmalade +553%
  • Turkey curry recipe +200%

Compared to this time last year (last 52 weeks), sales of:

  • Oxford Landing Estates Chardonnay +21%
  • Yellowtail Chardonnay +13%
  • Dark Horse Chardonnay +10%
  • Duchy Organic Seville Orange Thick Cut Marmalade +30%
  • Leek & Potato Soup +9%

We're seeing our customers embrace the classic foods from the iconic Bridget Jones film as well as wider 'retro' foods from the 90s, as many customers go in search of foods that spark memory and joy. Whether that's foods associated with nostalgic memories like iconic moments from our 90s or classic and trusty comfort foods such as potato waffles and black forest gateaus."

We're also witnessing a wider 90s food revival, with nostalgic puds, drinks and snacks booming in popularity at Waitrose.

  • Potato waffles +135%
  • Pot noodles +60%

  • Arctic roll +54%
  • Pineapple upside-down cake +44%
  • Chocolate fondant +83%
  • Caesar salad - Brussel sprout caesar salad +632%
