Waitrose customers are toasting the end of dry January and are ready to raise a glass with friends and family.
In the last week, we’ve seen sales of white rum and tequila increase by 13% and 10%, respectively, as many look to release their inner mixologist with a cocktail or two. However, lots have also been reaching for the convenient cocktail option, with sales of our No.1 Espresso Martini up 32%.
Cocktail recipes on Waitrose.com have also seen an increase, with searches for our passion fruit martini recipe and whisky sour recipe up 115% and 63% compared to January 2023.
Customers have also been preparing for a weekend of sport, with sales of Guinness up 34% and ready to drink cocktails up 20% as many of us get ready to gather with friends to watch the games.
Jamie Matthewson, Beers, Wines & Spirits Trading Manager at Waitrose, said: “We saw lots of our customers partaking in dry or ‘damp’ January, with sales of alcohol free and no alcohol drinks up over 50%. However, as we bid farewell to the longest month of the year, many of us are ready to welcome an alcoholic drink or two back into our lives. With our great selection of wines, beers & spirits, we can all be sure that whatever the tipple of choice, it will always be GOOD from Waitrose.”
