- Sales of English fizz up 23% compared to 2022
- Nearly 100 English and Welsh wines - largest supermarket range
- Market share of over 50%
As our customers celebrate the start of English Wine Week, demand for English wine has increased at Waitrose. We’ve seen sales of English fizz increase by 23% in comparison to 2022, and our Leckford Estate Brut - that’s made with grapes grown on our own vineyard in Hampshire - is a top pick amongst many of our customers.
We have a market share of over 50% and stock a selection of nearly 100 English and Welsh wines across our shops, on waitrose.com and Waitrose Cellar - the largest supermarket range in the UK.
Our support
We have been proud supporters of the English and Welsh wine industry for many years, including working with Nyetimber and Ridgeview since 2003, and we also play an active role with WineGB to showcase and talk about the wines of Great Britain wherever we can.
Alexandra Mawson, sparkling wine buyer at Waitrose, said: “We’re really proud of our English wine selection, and with the levels of quality improving each year, it’s no surprise that more of our customers are trying the English and Welsh wines that we offer in our shops and online. English fizz in particular is a popular tipple amongst our shoppers, with sales up 23% compared to last year, but if bubbles aren’t your thing but you still want something that’s produced closer to home, we have a wonderful selection across white, red, rosé and sweet wine.”
Our selection
Some of our homegrown favourites include our Blueprint English Dry White, Furleigh Estate Dorset Coast Special Reserve English Brut NV and the Simpsons Estate Chardonnay.
In addition to our extensive range of wine*, we have four Masters of Wine (MW) within our wine buying team, more than any other supermarket, and 250 drinks specialists who can offer expert guidance to customers in our shops.
Notes to Editors
*We have more than 1,600 wines, beers and spirits available across Waitrose Cellar, waitrose.com and in our shops.
