- Football fans stock up on essentials ahead of the big game
- Sales of widescreen TVs up on the last year, while sales of Waitrose snacks are up 36% in the past week
- Football-inspired Christmas bauble is a sell-out showstopper
As football fever continues to sweep the nation, shoppers are stocking up on products to watch England take on France this weekend.
Reacting to England's most recent win on Sunday, many rushed to John Lewis to upgrade their TV sets, with a spike in sales on Monday. Larger screen sizes are proving particularly popular, with 60-69 inch TVs up 124% compared to the previous week.
Popularity of football themed decorations
And in the past week alone, sales of football decorations at John Lewis have risen by 77%. Our Football Bauble has been so popular that it's sold out online, with limited stock in shops - as the UK combines the magic of Christmas alongside the excitement of watching the epic game of two halves.
Helping to calm nerves for any nail-biting shootouts, crisps and snacks have been a hit with customers at Waitrose, with sales up 36% compared to last week and dips up 10% compared to last year. Sharing bags of chocolate have risen 36%, and Chocolate Football at John Lewis are up 99%.
Customers stocking up
Meanwhile, customers have been stocking up on beer and cider. Sales at Waitrose spiked for both of England's recent fixtures; up 16% for the England vs Wales match, and up 8% for last weekend's England vs Senegal triumph. England fizz is also likely to be popular as England fans gather for the team's biggest match this year.
Natalie Mitchell, Director of Own Brand at Waitrose, said: “Our customers are kicking off the weekend and getting geared up for the big game. Whoever you're supporting, we have everything to make the match a winning experience - from snacks and party food to TVs and soundbars.”
