We recognise that cotton production can have significant economic, environmental and social impacts. We have a role to play in supporting responsible farming practices in cotton production, including efficient water usage, reduced usage of harmful chemicals and protection for the human rights of those working in these supply chains.
We’re committed to sourcing cotton for our own-brand products more sustainably. We define ‘more sustainable’ as meeting one of the following criteria:
We’re a proud member of Better Cotton and support its mission to help cotton communities survive and thrive, while protecting and restoring the environment.
Working collaboratively with the retail sector and organisations such as Better Cotton is important in driving improvements in cotton supply chains. We became a member in 2013, working closely to drive improvements across the industry. We face significant challenges in tracing the cotton used in our own-brand products through complex supply chains. We have signed up for Better Cotton Traceability and have begun our journey to source physical (traceable) Better Cotton through their Chain of Custody models. This will enable us to trace Better Cotton back to its country of origin.
