In 2022 we added new raw materials to our priority list: leather, polyester, and man-made cellulosics such as viscose. As with our focus on other materials, we are addressing the issues associated with sourcing these products through both improving our own standards and collaborating with others to address shared issues and raise the industry bar.
For leather, the John Lewis Partnership joined the Leather Working Group (LWG) in 2016 to support more responsible leather manufacturing and we are working towards all tanneries we use being LWG certified by end 2025. For polyester we specify that this is sourced to the Global Recycled Standard (GRS) or REPREVEĀ® certification wherever currently practicable. For man-made cellulosic fibres we signed up to the CanopyStyle commitment in 2022 to only source from 'green shirt' fibre producers by end 2025 and are working closely with our supply base to determine where they're currently sourcing from and make any sourcing changes necessary to ensure this.
