John Lewis & Partners Announces Predicted Top Ten Toys for Christmas

Thursday 29 August 2019

With just 19 weeks to go until the big day John Lewis & Partners has announced its predicted list of top ten toys to give this Christmas. Driven by a growing awareness of the importance of buying products which stand the test of time and can be passed down to younger children, classic and wooden toys are expected to be in high demand this Christmas.

The retailer has already seen a 21% increase in sales of wooden toys this year and is introducing fifteen wooden toys in time for Christmas taking the total number of own brand wooden toys it sells to 120. It’s Leckford Doll’s House, a 50 Piece Train Set and Mini Kitchen, which are all made from sustainably sourced wood, are expected to be among the most sought after gifts this festive season. The unicorn trend is also set to stay this season with a wooden pull-along version also tipped to be high on Christmas wish lists across the UK.

Other toys on John Lewis & Partners’ top ten list include the brand new Osmo Little Genius Starter Kit which turns real world play into digital magic, a LEGO Rocket Assembly & Transport Space, and a new book ‘Robin Red Vest’.

Harry Boughton, Toy Buyer, at John Lewis comments:

“As we all become more aware of our impact on the environment we are seeing a move away from products such as slime and collectibles in favour of toys which have limitless play value and can be passed down to younger children.

“Parents are also telling us that they want to buy toys which encourage their children to spend more time playing with educational games and reading. We think the latest Osmo Little Genius Starter Kit and the Gravitrax XXL Starter Kit which teaches children about magnetics and gravity will prove particularly popular.

“LEGO is always a popular request on letters to Father Christmas, and this year we expect the new LEGO Rocket Assembly & transport Space Port to be in high demand.

“Miniature home products continue to trend, so for parents and family members looking to encourage creativity and role play, we’ve created a wooden Mini Kitchen where little ones can pick up “ingredients” before rustling up a delicious imaginary meal in their play kitchen.”

These toys will be available in-store and online at John Lewis & Partners from Autumn 2019.
