Total sales excluding fuel were up 4.1% compared to the same week last year.

Customers shopped for roast dinner essentials like fresh meat and vegetables, while also stocking up on cold weather staples including hot drinks and soup.

Last week's launch of four cuts of British-grown Wagyu beef, famous for its buttery, rich flavour and tenderness, saw strong sales. 

Customers were preparing for seasonal events including Chinese New Year, as sales of Chinese ready meals increased by 67%. The Valentine's Day meal deal for two launches in shops this week.

Total sales for the week were down 4.4% on the same week last year due to the snow.

Fashion sales were down 2.1%. Women’s Accessories had another strong week with sales up 11.1% as customers bought items to keep warm. Sales of boots were up 100%.   Own brand womenswear sales were up again on last year.

Home sales were down 6.0%. Sales of our new season, own brand House range were up 7.0%, and sales of Gifts rose by 7.8% as a result of customers beginning to shop for Valentine’s Day.  


Electrical and Home Technology sales were down 5.1%. Communications Technology sales were up 4.5% primarily driven by demand for mobile phones and smartwatches. The snow increased sales of heating products which were up 200% on last year.
