'Total sales excluding fuel were 20.2% higher than the same week last year, although comparisons continue to be distorted by Easter falling several weeks later in 2019 compared to last year.

As Easter celebrations unfolded and warmer temperatures swept the nation, sales of barbecue and warm weather food products increased this weekend, along with ice cream and desserts. Sales of soft drinks, beers, ciders and spirits also enjoyed significant increases, with the Heston teapot and scotch eggs continuing to be top sellers in our Easter collection.

This week, Waitrose & Partners Essential chicken was recommended for its quality and value by Which? consumer magazine in a new supermarket chicken report. In addition, we announced that we will be funding 10 projects designed to find, test and share effective solutions to tackle plastic pollution and help clean up the oceans.'

'Total sales for the week were up 10.1% as customers enjoyed shopping Easter promotions earlier in the week. However, the record breaking warm weather over the weekend impacted sales, when compared to the same Easter weekend last year.

Fashion sales were up 9.3%.  Own brand clothing ranges Kin and Modern Rarity saw sales up 23% and 22% respectively. John Lewis & Partners shops with Style Studios saw sales up 31% as customers looked to refresh their wardrobes for the summer season.

Home sales were up 11.6%. Sales of Tabletop products were up 20.4% and gifts and candles were up 25% as customers prepared their homes for Easter celebrations.

Electrical and Home Technology sales were up 10.2%. Warm weather saw sales of fans up 310% as customers invested in products to cool the home.'
