Supporting the Samaritans through the Golden Jubilee Trust

The Golden Jubilee Trust is our flagship volunteering programme, through which Partners have the opportunity to volunteer for up to six months on full pay and benefits.

The Golden Jubilee Trust was set up in 2000 as a registered charity to celebrate the Partnership’s Golden Jubilee. Over 980 Partners have participated during that time, equating to over 393,000 hours donated and representing a community value of over £25 million.

Samaritans have been one of our charity partners where we share our knowledge and experience with the charity’s retail arm.

This was the first time the Golden Jubilee Trust has offered a set of secondments with a national reach, with over 20 Partners having supported the charity at various locations across the UK since 2017.

“Samaritans is a charity close to my heart as I know people who have benefited greatly by having someone to talk to. As well as sharing ideas and best practice, I changed light bulbs, served customers, re-merchandised the shop floor, tidied the back-of-house areas and drunk lots of tea! I also listened to the volunteers, asking them what they want from me and trying to help them take as much money as possible. It was a very humbling experience as these guys give up their own time to help others and have been really grateful for my help.”
