Record number of shoppers buying on mobile phones as John Lewis Clearance begins online

John Lewis Clearance has got off to a busy start since it launched online on Christmas Eve at 5pm. The retailer saw a record volume of customers buying on their mobile phones with nearly half of shoppers (47.1%) choosing to shop on their mobile phone on Christmas Day.

The busiest hour was between 6pm and 7pm on Christmas Eve and on Christmas Day the peak hour for placing orders was between 9pm and 10pm.

Mark Felix, director for online trade at John Lewis said: 'Customers were quick to start shopping for offers this year with Mulberry handbags and Dyson cordless vacuum cleaners in strong demand along with beauty gift sets and Christmas gift wrap.

'The trend of shopping on mobile phones again saw an increase this year with nearly half (47.1%) of all traffic coming from mobile phones on Christmas Day. All 48 of our shops are open again tomorrow.'

Best selling items from Clearance so far across home, fashion, electricals and home technology include:

  • Mulberry Bayswater Classic Leather bag price £696.50 (was £995.00)
  • Dyson V6 Absolute Cordless Vacuum Cleaner £249.95 (was £449.95)
  • Samsung  UE43KS7500 Curved Ultra HD Smart TV 43" £749.00 (save £100 when bought with selected soundbars)
  • Clarinsmen Skincare gift set price £26.80 (was £40.00)
  • John Lewis Ruskin House gift wrap price £2.00 (was £4.00).
