'Reworked' competition will put one aspiring musician on Christmas Day TV

John Lewis today announced plans to give one aspiring music artist a Christmas they will never forget.

The retailer's 'Reworked' initiative, which launches today, will encourage members of the public to follow in Lily Allen's footsteps and record a version of the soundtrack to its new Christmas advert. The winning entry will then be used to soundtrack a special edition of the advert that will be aired on Christmas Day.

John Lewis's hotly-anticipated Christmas campaign was unveiled during The X Factor on Saturday 9 November. It features the animated story of best friends Bear and Hare at Christmas, set to a cover of Keane's 2004 hit, 'Somewhere Only We Know,' by Lily Allen.

'Reworked' calls on up and coming singers and musicians to upload videos of their version of the Keane track at youtube.com/JohnLewisRetail. The winner, who will be chosen by a panel that includes Keane, will be given an all-expenses paid trip to London where they'll record the track in a professional studio with the producer of Lily Allen's 'Somewhere Only We Know' cover, Paul Beard.

The recording will then feature in a 90-second version of the heart-warming advert which will be shown live on ITV1 on Christmas Day.

Craig Inglis, Marketing Director at John Lewis, comments: 'In previous years we've been overwhelmed by the number of people sending and uploading their versions of songs from our Christmas ads. This year, with the support of Lily Allen and Keane, we want to give someone a Christmas they'll never forget - the chance to hear their song on our advert on Christmas Day. Absolutely anybody can take part - we're really looking forward to seeing the entries come in!'

'Reworked' launches today, Wednesday 20 November. A video message from Lily Allen can be found at youtube.com/JohnLewisRetail, where video entries can be uploaded. The competition closes on 3 December and a winner will be chosen by 6 December 2013.
