John Lewis's new sofa recycling service to customers is part of a wider scheme to make good use of unwanted furniture.
It supports the Furniture Reuse Network (FRN), which is working with John Lewis to provide low-cost furniture to those in need and also to help reduce waste.
Customers buying a new sofa from John Lewis can pay £29.97 for their old sofa to be taken away and reused or recycled by one of the FRN's 300 UK reuse organisations.
Also this week, Waitrose opens a new shop at the Welcome Break services at Membury East on the M4, and chefs from John Lewis Cambridge take part in a cookery challenge to raise money for a local charity.
