Total sales were 1.2% higher than the same week last year as the sunshine over the bank holiday and the early part of the week influenced what customers bought across our shops.

Our food to go range performed well with overall sales growing by 16% as customers took to al fresco dining. Salad and sandwich sales were both up by more than 15% and snacking fruit sales increased by more than 31%.

Despite there being some strong promotional activity in the equivalent week last year, beers, wine and spirits sales still saw significant increases with sparkling wine up 21%, speciality beer up 24%, Pimms up 55% and Aperol up 70%.

It was another good week for health and beauty, too, as sun care sales increased by 35%, while sales of our gardening range grew by 17%.
