Our suppliers work with us, not for us. In keeping with our constitution, we strive to maintain long-term supplier relationships, based on fairness, courtesy and promptness.

Our approach involves:

ensuring all our own-brand suppliers commit to our
Responsible Sourcing Code of Practice
developing the Waitrose and John Lewis Responsible
Sourcing programmes
trading fairly with our suppliers and supporting
established schemes such as Fairtrade and Traidcraft
further supporting suppliers through the work of the
Waitrose Foundation and the John Lewis Foundation.

We support all those in our supply chain in obeying the law; respecting their employees; and reducing their impact on the environment. Our partnerships with suppliers help us to offer customers over 350,000 product lines in John Lewis, from fashion and furnishings to household goods, and around 18,000 high-quality food products in Waitrose.

'Waitrose has funded the creation of a Chair of Sustainable Agriculture at Aberystwyth University. This academic post dedicated to food security is the first of its kind in the UK and will spearhead vital research designed to help to secure the UK’s food supplies over the next few decades.'
