Chew decide....Waitrose asks nation to pick their tuck shop favourites

Thursday 13 August 2009

Duran Duran, A-ha and Spandau Ballet have all made a comeback in the Noughties, but it's not just music that's experiencing a retro revolution – its life's sweetest things too. This week, Waitrose launches Monty Bojangles, a range of natural sweets including old favourites such as Pear Drops, Rhubarb and Custards and Cola Cubes.

If that's not sweet enough, Waitrose is asking the nation's sweet-lovers to vote for their childhood favourites to help them decide which treat to put back onto its shelves nationwide. Consumers can take their pick from bonbons to barley sugars, shrimps to sherbets by logging on to the Waitrose website (www.waitrose.com/sweetrevival).

Matthew Jones, Waitrose Confectionery Buyer comments: 'Retro foods have really seen a resurgence over the past year, and corner shop sweets are what everyone remembers from their childhood. It's been a really tough task deciding which varieties to bring back onto our shelves, and that's why we’re launching the Great Sweet Revival campaign – it's now the nation's chance to bring back their old favourites.'

For a chance to vote for your favourite sweet, go to the Waitrose website (www.waitrose.com/sweetrevival) from 12 August - Waitrose will announce the most voted for sweet in October.
