Our Community

Being a force for good in the community was an important part of our founders vision when he set up the John Lewis Partnership. Partners all around the UK have taken that to heart, both individually and collectively, since our foundation.

Our Constitution states: 'The Partnership aims to obey the spirit as well as the letter of the law, and to contribute to the wellbeing of the communities where it operates'.

For us this contribution is not just about financial donations, it is about developing partnerships with customers and the wider community through devoting time and energy to support local, regional and national initiatives that help to build and maintain healthier communities. Such a partnership is shown in the setting up of a The Friends of Cambridgeshire Music Trust aimed at removing financial and other barriers that prevent children accessing music lessons in Cambridgeshire.

Getting practically involved at a local level is very important, and the Partnership encourages close links between Partners, schools, institutions, charities and local authorities.

We also know that the benefits are mutual: Partners are proud of helping to improve and support local communities, and community work also helps them to develop their own skills and experience.
